The Footbrawlers opened up Season III on the road against the expansion team the San Francisco Fairies.....o,0...and it was not a good start for the Fairies.
Derward Grace got things started for the Footbrawlers with a 1 yd TD run in the first quarter, and later added a 6 yd TD run close to halftime. He finished with 28 carries for 151 yds and 2 TD's.
Footbrawlers QB Freddy Alvey was back to his old self in this game, rushing for 112 yds and a TD, and adding another TD through the air to rookie WR Augustus Taylor. Taylor looked really sharp in camp, and took over the 2nd WR spot from Elvis Albritton in most of the passing packages. Taylor finished the day with 7 receptions for 137 yds, 1 TD.
Coach Sonny Fontenot had this to say about his new WR.
"I was scouting him while he was in college. He's big, fast, strong and smart. Everything you could hope for in a quality WR. The only reason he's not the #1 WR is because he needs to learn some of the tricks of the trade from Luscious..and Luscious has some bullshit worked into his contract that he be the #1. Give it time, Taylor will make it there eventually. Just don't tell Luscious I said that"
Meanwhile, the best punt returner in the league last season (Albritton) was almost completely shut down by San Fran's special teams. "Their punt coverage is really awesome. I couldn't find holes anywhere", said Albritton "and I really didn't care to get too close to them damn Fairies. I could care less what they do in their private lives, but I swear I saw one of them lick their lips at me in a pile up on the first punt return. Just nasty." "
I can't be certain, but I think Tyree Russell found a way to sneak into the Fairies locker room and masquerade as a football player. If I were Dennis Colby, I'd look out when the Cadavers have to play those guys."
Great sound bites from the Footbrawlers locker room. The Footbrawlers ended up winning big time in this game 28-10. Now they travel home to take on the Hookers. Should be a really good game to watch.
