Ferndale head coach Sonny Fontenot was interviewed by reporters after practice on Saturday, and he responded to rumors of his being 'jilted' on draft day after Mandos coach Luke Brand drafted OLB Hai Light in the first round...
"Yeah, I expressed a little disappointment to him after that pick, but Hai Light was not intended to be the centerpiece of our draft. I had originally intended to draft Light in the 2nd round if he was still available. I think I got a little payback of sorts when I drafted Max Todd and Harry Dickinson back to back in Rd. 3 and 4, the two best DT's in the draft. I think that forced Brand to change his gameplan a little bit as far as the draft went. We'll find out later this week who got the best of the crop."
Fontenot went on to trash his inter-conference 'rival' by adding..."This so-called rivalry talk coming from a coach who doesn't even show up on the sidelines at gametime, he just mails it in and prays he gets lucky. Sure, they're 2-0 so far, just like us, but look at who they've played....an expansion team with an invisible owner and a bottom feeder team from last season that just happens to use a QB we shipped out before last season. There was a reason for that. He can go ahead and continue to think what he wants about how he thinks I feel about Hai Light, and come gametime, our offense will show Hai Light and the Mandos how we feel about them."
Strong words coming from Fontenot, a man that guided the Footbrawlers to the best overall offense and defense in Season II. Look for more of the same when the Footbrawlers travel to Cleveland on (insert game date and time here) to try and back up those strong statements.
