From BSPN.....
Honolulu Hitmen head coach Josh Mawxell called a press conference today to address the controversy created by statements he made earlier in the week. The comments, made to a local Honolulu affiliate, have been the talk of the Honolulu sports world. Maxwell said among other things "this team isn't going to the Chilibowl." Before calling the press conference Maxwell had commented to a few reporters that what he said had been taken out of context. Maxwell seemed less intent on apologizing than clarifying.
"The reason I called everyone here, is to nip this in the bud right now. Before it goes any further, let me be clear, I want this team to win THIS YEAR. We are going to do everything we can to have a winning season. It was never my intention to give the impression that I wasn't going to do everything in my power to make this a winning team this season. In fact I was conscious of that when I was speaking. I thought to myself, I better word this right I don't wanna give the wrong impression. So I knew someone out there would try to take things out of context. I just thought I had done a good enough job of explaining myself."
"I don't blame WKRN. They were wonderful. They got it. As soon as I said it, they got it. It was other, national networks and papers that turned this into an issue. I know the games the media plays. You guys like to rile the fans up. You like to get a story. At any rate, I'm not here to apologize, but to clear everything up. The Honolulu Hitmen are gonna take the field every game this season with the intention of winning."
"I think that about wraps it up. I won't be apologizing for having my comments taken out of context. I just wanna clarify for the fans of this team. I'm gonna do the very best I can for you. Um, I'm not gonna take any questions either. I just want this to serve as my side of the story, my explanation. I know it's unlikely you guys will let this go, but I'm over it. I have a season to get ready for. Thank you."
